Yom Yerushalayim!!

Woot!! Yom Yerushalayim!! I can't it's only been 40 years since the reunification of Jerusalem. Walking around it's still hard to image what this city looked like when my mom visted only 30 years ago.
To actually be here, in Jerusalem for Yom Yerushalayim though, is an amazing feeling. Despite having class tomorrow, I intend to CELEBRATE!! My favourite way to celebrate things here is to walk around and take everything in. Everything in this country is under dispute, whether its internally or externally, and to see the way people are affected by holidays and celebrations is so varied. Last week, driving home from the beach in Tel Aviv, the entire valley leading into Jerusalem was lit up with bonfires, and all night you could smell the smoke from the fires from the city.

Mmmm... the smells of the city. most of the year, this city has stunk. I can't wait to get home to my fresh mountain air. But right now, everything is in bloom. And smells incredible.

Back to Yom Yerushalayim though. It's also Yom Hastudent. Which makes me so happy. Becuase only here in Israel would students that have been on strike for a month have a Students' Day, with concerts on campus and aroudn the city. One of those things that makes you shake your head and think "only in Israel, I love this country"
